General Information

The Vocational College – Modern Languages (Berufskolleg Fremdsprachen) is a full-time vocational school. It provides the theoretical and practical knowledge required for qualified commercial positions in business and administration. At the core of the program is intensive, practical instruction in English and French or Spanish over the course of two school years. The application-oriented integration of business administration and foreign languages meets the demands of the globalized economy. The program specifically aims to develop the skills needed to perform business and administrative tasks in foreign-language-intensive work environments in a goal-oriented manner.

Admission to theVocational College – Modern Languages (Berufskolleg Fremdsprachen) requires a Mittlere Reife or an equivalent level of education. Admission is therefore possible based on:

  • successful completion of a Realschule;
  • Promotion to 10th grade in an eight-year high school;
  • Successful completion of a two-year vocational school program leading to a vocational school diploma;
  • an equivalent educational qualification, e.g., a Werkrealschule (9+3).

In addition, students must earn at least a “satisfactory” grade in English.

A selection process is conducted at the Vocational College – Modern Languages (Berufskolleg Fremdsprachen) only if, even after fully utilizing available resources and coordinating with neighboring schools regarding their capacity, it is not possible to admit all applicants who meet the requirements.

Admission is initially on a probationary basis. The class conference decides whether the student has successfully completed the probationary period based on the grades on the midyear report card.

Educational Qualifications and Career Opportunities

Upon passing the final exam and completing the supplementary program at the Commercial Vocational College for Foreign Languages, graduates are entitled to use the professional title “State-Certified Business Assistant.”

This degree enables you to:

  • Upon passing the final exam in Vocational College – Modern Languages (Berufskolleg Fremdsprachen II), students are awarded the Fachhochschulreife certificate, which qualifies them to study at a university of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg.
    The Fachhochschulreife opens the door to a range of additional professional qualifications, such as studying at universities of applied sciences or entering the higher civil service at federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Upon passing the Delta exam, students can also attend universities in Baden-Württemberg. With the Duale Hochschule’s academic readiness test and an apprenticeship contract, students can also attend the Duale Hochschule.
  • Immediate entry into the workforce in middle management or as an employee in administration and business. This fulfills the requirement for compulsory vocational schooling.
  • Further vocational training in a skilled trade at
    a) banking, industry, commerce, insurance, and other service sectors;
    b) local, state, and federal government agencies (e.g., tax administration) in the mid-level civil service (civil service career path). In these cases, it is possible to shorten the duration of the apprenticeship.
  • Admission to a WO, TO, or SO in the 2nd or 1st academic year. These types of schools lead to a subject-specific or general university entrance qualification.
  • Admission to the 1½-year preparatory program for technical teachers, provided that the applicant can demonstrate 2 years of professional experience in an office or administrative setting.

Financial Expense

In general, schools do not require students to purchase textbooks or other learning materials.
No tuition is charged.

Travel expenses

Students from Baden-Württemberg must pay a co-payment for trips on public transportation. For specific inquiries, please contact the VGMT in Lauda-Königshofen and the office of the Bad Mergentheim Business School.
