In addition to their on-the-job training, the trainees receive general education and theoretical instruction in their field.
In the elective track, students take courses to acquire specialized knowledge:
The goal of all efforts at the vocational school is to develop vocational competence, which, in addition to technical expertise, requires methodological, social, and media skills.
Highly qualified students at the Hauptschule have the opportunity to earn a level of education equivalent to the Realschule diploma as part of their vocational school and vocational training.
Thanks to the exceptional dedication of the students, instructors, and subject teachers, the final exams in recent years have been very successful. Many graduates of the Commercial Vocational School received awards from the Bad Mergentheim Commercial Association, the Commercial School, and the fabi corporate training network.
In addition, we were able to secure the top spots in the Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s district every year, which served as a reward for the work done at our vocational school and by our dedicated partner companies.
The teachers at the Bad Mergentheim Vocational School for Business are rising to the challenges posed by changes in the professional world. They actively participate in continuing education programs, collaborate on projects with companies that provide apprenticeships, and serve as examiners for the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Effective August 1, 2014, the Office Management Specialist is a newly created, recognized three-year vocational training program under the Vocational Training Act (BBiG). It combines the three professions of office clerk, office communications clerk, and office communications specialist into a single profession. The goal is to create an “attractive, clearly structured, and modern program for various industries.” The plan is to develop a training program that aims to foster “holistic, process-oriented practical skills.”
Structure of the Training Program “
” The training takes place at the workplace and at the vocational school. The training program lasts three years. During the training, the workplace curriculum can be customized through elective qualifications; however, these will not be included in the school’s framework curriculum. The vocational school offers identical areas of study for all trainees. High-performing students may complete an elective qualification they did not choose as an additional qualification.
The training regulations will consist of two parts: a basic regulation contains, among other things, information on the job profile and provides for a standard interim and final examination. It is not time-limited. In addition, there is a pilot regulation intended to test the extended final examination until July 31, 2020.
Training Content
During their training, office management assistants acquire comprehensive skills for handling complex office and business processes. They organize, coordinate, and carry out office management tasks. In addition, they handle commercial tasks such as accounting and monitoring payments. They learn to use modern communication and accounting systems, manage procurement processes, and prepare and present key performance indicators. Another important area is communication and cooperation with external and internal partners in German and at least one foreign language. Office management specialists may also work in human resources or marketing.
The following mandatory qualifications are required for all trainees:

In addition, there are integrative skills and competencies that are to be taught throughout the entire training program: These relate to the training company, work organization, as well as information, communication, and cooperation.
To allow for company-specific differentiation, there are a total of ten elective qualifications, each lasting five months, from which the company selects two:
Exam The exam is administered as a spread-out final exam.
Part 1 of the final exam focuses on office processes and procurement.
In Part 2 of the final exam, in addition to economics and social studies, customer relationship processes are specifically tested. One of the two elective qualification units is also included in the exam.

Today, the responsibilities of industrial business clerks require an approach that is oriented toward business processes. The reform of the profession, effective August 1, 2002, aims to ensure that, throughout the entire training program, cross-functional qualifications are taught in conjunction with specialized qualifications. These include, among other things, skills in the use of information and telecommunications systems, foreign languages, and measures for quality assurance and innovation.
The ideal profile is that of a customer-focused case worker who works in a team-oriented, process-oriented, and project-oriented manner, using the latest information, communication, and media technologies to develop solutions tailored to customer needs.
Industrial business administrators support all business processes from a business management perspective, from the initial stages of order processing through to customer service after the order has been fulfilled. They can work in core business functions such as marketing and sales, procurement and inventory management, billing, and human resources, as well as in collaboration with other specialized departments, commercial divisions, and projects.
Starting in the 2015–2016 school year, this vocational training program will no longer be offered at the Bad Mergentheim Business School.

General Information
Effective August 1, 2020, the previous apprenticeship program “Wholesale and Foreign Trade Clerk—Specializing in Wholesale” was replaced by the apprenticeship program “Wholesale and Foreign Trade Management Clerk—Specializing in Wholesale.”
The reorganization is intended to strengthen students’ practical skills. It is also designed to address the new demands of the workforce, particularly with regard to digital business processes, industry diversity, and changes in the legal framework. In addition, the final examination will be given greater weight through the introduction of a phased final examination.
Duration
The training program typically lasts 3 years and can be shortened to 2.5 or 2 years.
Vocational School Hours
Vocational school classes are held on average 1.5 days per week, following the fixed/alternating day schedule. This means that trainees attend classes at our school regularly on one day of the week and on another day every two weeks. The number of class hours ranges from 12 to 13 per week.
Exams
The final exam for Wholesale and Foreign Trade Management Specialists is a split final exam. This means that the final exam is divided into two parts. Part 1 of the exam takes place during the fourth half-year of training, and Part 2 takes place at the end of the vocational training program.
Part 1 of the extended final exam
The first part of the final exam takes place during the second year of training (summer exam) in the subject area “Organizing the Product Range and Services.”
Part 2 of the extended final exam
The second part of the final exam takes place at the end of the training program in the following subject areas: “Process-Oriented Organization of Wholesale Businesses,” “Commercial Management of Business Processes,” “Economics and Social Studies,” as well as the subjects German and Social Studies, as part of the vocational school graduation exam.
This is followed by an oral and practical examination before the relevant professional association.
